Mrs. Gibbs earned her undergraduate teaching degree at Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her Master's Degree at SUNY Cortland. She grew up in Guyana and England, and has lived in the United States for three decades. She is a member and volunteer at Armand Bayou Nature Center, where she also taught in the CCISD gifted program for five years. She enjoys traveling, birding, and playing in her garden. Mrs. Gibbs's elder son graduated from UH-CL in 2006 and was married in May 2007. Her younger son lives in Massachusetts. This year she and her husband are hosting a high-school exchange student from Italy.
Second graders benefit from and enjoy participating in the Junior Great Books program and are pleased to contribute to www.spaghettibookclub.org, a website for children's book reviews. They read or listen to many of the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne as jumping-off points for social studies and science topics.
